To help transport the growing crowds coming to the Magic Kingdom in the early 1970's, a pair of Staten Island style ferry boats was ordered to supplement the parks original two side wheel steam boats and the monorail system. A third ferry was built in 1976 to further increase capacity for the ever growing crowds.

Originally know as Magic Kingdom I and Magic Kingdom II, and the Kingdom Queen, the ferry boats were renamed in 1999 becoming the Admiral Joe Fowler (formerly MK I), the Richard F. Irvine (formerly MK II), and General Joe Potter (formerly Kingdom Queen).  They were named for the men who oversaw the initial construction of Walt Disney World.

The two original ferrys were identical at 120' long, 35' wide, with a draft of 5' 6" and a wieght of 190 tons. The third ferry shares the same dimensions but weighs 180 tons with an aluminum structure rather than steel. The two older boats also fetaure single stacks while the newer one has double stacks.

Each ferry can carry up to 650 passengers per trip which was a huge improvement over the 250 passenger capacity of the original steam boats.
