When Six Flags Over Mid-America opened June 5, 1971 one of the original attractions that opened with the park was the Six Flags Railroad. Originally the railroad had two full train sets, but in 198- the park sold off the #5 engine to Busch Gardens Tampa where it still operates today.
Built in 1970, #5 was a standard Crown Metal 4-4-0, 36" gauge steam locomotive fueled by propane. Six Flags ran the locomotive from 1971-198- when they sold it to Busch Gardens Tampa where it still operates today on the Trans-Veldt Railway.

Built in 1970, #5 was a standard Crown Metal 4-4-0, 36" gauge steam locomotive fueled by propane. The locomotive along with the railway took on the name Tommy G. Robertson in 1996 as a tribute to the retired vice president of maintenance who was responsible for much of the park's construction.

The Tommy G. Robertson Railroad has been operating for almost 50 years through the regular season, and in more recent years for the park's Fright Fest and Holiday in the Park events as well.
