Scream Machine
Opened at Six Flags Great Adventure in 1989, it was the tallest, fastest roller coaster in the world, until Cedar Point opened Magnum XL200 less than a month later.

Scream Machine was designed and built by Arrow Dynamics, and was a a slightly larger version of Shockwave which had opened a year earlier at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois.

Initially, the ride was going to be called Ninja (at the time Six Flags had opened several coasters with the Ninja name), but the name was changed borrowing a name from Six Flags Over Georgia.

Scan10007.jpg (87973 bytes) The Sarajevo Bobsled roller coaster was removed to make room for the Scream Machine, and construction took place in the off season between 1988 and 1989.

The structure of the ride was modified during its opening season and in the off-season between 1989 and 1990.   The tops of the loops were replaced with reinforced sections of track.    One of the original pieces of track from the top of one of the loops now resides in the Safari as a climbing structure for the baboons.
