Kingda Ka is the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world.

After nearly nearly a year of construction, Kingda Ka debuted in May of 2005 as the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world.

The coaster utilizes a hydraulic launch to achieve its record breaking speed and height.   Kingda Ka is the second strata coaster in the world, besting the previous world record holder, Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point.   Kingda Ka utilizes the same basic design, with an increased height and speed, and the added element of a high speed hill after the tower.   In addition, Kingda Ka also features a dual loading station to increase capacity.

In the first season of operation, Kingda Ka suffered a great deal of down time during its break-in process, which culminated in a month long closure in July after an incident occurred during a morning test run.

After Kingda Ka reopened in August, it ran more reliably for the rest of the season, though the queue area was modified so it no longer ran under the launch track for safety reasons.
